Organic fertilisers with seaweed extract, amino acids, and humic/fulvic acids are nutrient-rich products designed to support healthy plant growth. Seaweed provides essential minerals and growth hormones, amino acids aid in stress resistance, and humic/fulvic acids improve nutrient uptake and soil health.
Foliar Feeding
- Benefits: Delivers nutrients quickly by absorbing them directly through the leaves. Ideal for addressing nutrient deficiencies fast or during periods of stress when root uptake is limited.
- Best For: Correcting micronutrient deficiencies, and when plants show signs of stress or stunted growth.
- Limitations: Can be washed away by rain or watering. Over-application may scorch leaves.
Fertilizing the Soil (Soil Fertigation)
- Benefits: Provides nutrients directly to the roots, where plants absorb most of what they need. It’s longer-lasting and supports healthier, sustained growth.
- Best For: Regular maintenance and encouraging strong, deep root systems.
- Limitations: Slower to show effects, and nutrients can sometimes leach away if overwatered or applied incorrectly.
Which Is Better?
- For long-term plant health and steady growth, fertilizing the soil is typically better.
- For a quick boost or specific nutrient issues, foliar feeding is recommended.
Note: A combination of both methods generally yields the best results, balancing immediate needs with sustained growth.
This is why we recommend GARDEN GOLD - Sea-Prime Formula in addition to a base fertiliser (GARDEN GOLD - Houseplants, Garden or Tomato & Chile Formulas) as part of your fertilising regime.
The frequency of feeding indoor plants depends on the plant type, growth stage, and time of year. Here’s a general guideline:
Active Growth Period (Spring and Summer):
- Feed every 1–2 weeks with GARDEN GOLD - Houseplants Formula.
Dormant Period (Fall and Winter):
- Reduce feeding to once a month or stop entirely, as most indoor plants slow their growth during cooler months.
Special Cases:
- Flowering plants: May require feeding more often, even during winter, to support blooms.
- Slow growers or succulents: Need less frequent feeding—once every 6–8 weeks is usually enough.
Always follow the instructions on your chosen fertiliser and observe your plants for signs of overfeeding (yellowing or browning leaf tips, salt buildup in the soil) or underfeeding (stunted growth or pale leaves).
We at GARDEN GOLD ORGANICS recommend using a good quality organic compost/potting soil (without peat) rather than an inexpensive potting soil. Our brand of choice in the Netherlands is Bio-Kultura; either 100% compost or a mix of compost and enriched garden soil.
The frequency of feeding outdoor or garden plants depends on the plant type, soil quality, and growth stage. Here’s a general guideline:
Vegetables and Annual Flowers:
- Feed every 1–2 weeks during their active growing season using GARDEN GOLD - Garden Formula.
Perennials, Shrubs, and Trees:
- Feed every 2–4 weeks during the active growing season (spring through early autumn) with GARDEN GOLD - Garden Formula at full strength. Reduce or stop feeding as the plant starts going dormant in late autumn.
- For a stimulating effect and correcting most deficiencies, feed with GARDEN GOLD - Sea-Prime Formula 2–3 times per year at equal intervals.
Lawns:
Fertilise 3–4 times per year, or as recommended for your grass type and region with GARDEN GOLD - Sea-Prime Formula.
Special Cases:
- Heavy feeders (e.g., tomatoes, peppers, corn, squash, cucumbers and roses): Require feeding every 1–2 weeks during their growth and flowering phases with GARDEN GOLD - Tomato & Chile Formula.
- Low-maintenance plants (e.g., native plants, drought-tolerant varieties): May only need one feeding per season, or none if planted in nutrient-rich soil.
Always adjust based on soil quality—plants in rich, healthy soil will need less frequent feeding or a reduction in the dosage. Over-fertilising can harm plants, so follow the specific instructions for your fertiliser and plant type.
We at GARDEN GOLD ORGANICS recommend yearly mulching (+/- 5 cm) with a good quality organic compost (without peat). Our brand of choice in the Netherlands is Bio-Kultura; either 100% compost or a mix of compost and enriched garden soil.
Feeding your plants in the winter depends on the type of plant and its growing conditions. Most indoor and outdoor plants enter a dormant phase during the colder months and require less or no fertiliser since they aren’t actively growing. Over-fertilising during this time can harm them.
However, there are exceptions:
- Indoor plants in a heated environment: If your plants are still actively growing because of warm temperatures and light, you can feed them lightly with a diluted (half-strength) fertiliser once a month.
- Winter-active plants: Some plants, like cool-season vegetables or winter-blooming houseplants, may benefit from regular feeding during their growth period.
As a rule of thumb, always observe your plant's growth patterns and reduce or pause fertilising if they seem dormant.
Seaweed extract enhances root development, boosts stress tolerance (e.g., drought and heat), and increases plant immunity. It also improves nutrient absorption and promotes vibrant foliage.
Amino acids play a vital role in protein synthesis and help plants manage stress, such as heat or drought. They also stimulate growth and improve overall plant vigor.
Humic and fulvic acids are organic compounds that help improve soil structure, enhance nutrient retention, and stimulate beneficial microbial activity, leading to healthier plants and increased yields.
Yes, these fertilisers are suitable for a wide range of plants, including fruits, vegetables, flowers, and lawns. They provide essential nutrients for both indoor and outdoor plants.
Absolutely! Organic fertilisers with these natural ingredients are eco-friendly, sustainable, and safe for use around pets and children. They help maintain soil health and promote sustainable gardening practices.
Yes! These fertilisers can help increase the yield and quality of fruits, vegetables, and flowers by enhancing nutrient absorption, supporting root growth, and boosting plant vitality.
For optimal results, GARDEN GOLD fertilisers can be used alongside GARDEN GOLD - Sea-Prime Formula, though they are effective on their own. Their unique formulation provides a balanced nutrient profile for plants.
At GARDEN GOLD ORGANICS, we incorporate Sea-Prime Formula into our feeding regime for enhanced stress tolerance and improved nutrient uptake, thanks to the added iron and micronutrients.
Although cleaning your tools is generally a good idea, clogging should not be a problem with GARDEN GOLD fertiliser products as we filter all of our products at 50 microns; safe for any spraying system.
For larger gardens, we recommend our product BIRCHMEIER – Aquamix 1.25 V – Sprayer for Liquid Fertiliser and Plant Care.
This high-quality hose-end sprayer makes it easy to apply GARDEN GOLD liquid fertilisers evenly and efficiently across wide areas. With adjustable dosage settings and a reliable design, the Aquamix ensures optimal plant nutrition while saving time and effort — ideal for lawns, vegetable beds, or ornamental borders.
Our base products (GARDEN GOLD - Houseplants, Garden or Tomato & Chile Formulas) do not have a strong odor, perfect for indoor use.
Our seaweed extract product GARDEN GOLD - Sea-Prime Formula carries a subtle ocean scent due to its high concentration of seaweed extract.
